Features Shamsaha
Shamsaha, Arabic for “Her Sun” - from where she derives her power and potential - is the only existing GBV crisis advocacy response program in the Middle East, provides 24/7 crisis advocacy care for women in search of empowerment, independence and safety.
Shamsaha’s three mandates include: 1) 24/7 international crisis advocacy for women 2) women’s goal-based empowerment casework support and 3) community education and awareness.
Further, Shamsaha’s GBV response mobile phone application has expanded services throughout the Arabian Gulf, making virtual GBV response care available for the first time ever to millions of women in the region.
Since its beginning in 2016, Shamsaha has supported thousands of women, but through the use of innovative mobile phone technology, Shamsaha has improved and expanded its reach to include Arabic-speaking women throughout the GCC and the greater MENA region.
Shamsaha, as the only provider of 24/7 GBV crisis advocacy care in the Middle East, is filling a wide regional gap for isolated Arab and expatriate women alike.
Following international best practices as outline by the UNODC Handbook for Victims, Shamsaha seeks to support women and improve the current conditions for women by making available easily-accessible, culturally-tailored, language-specific, trauma-informed, virtual care for victims of GBV throughout the entire Middle East for the first time ever.
